The Center for Design Research (CDR) is a community of scholars focused on understanding and augmenting engineering design innovation practice and education. We are dedicated to facilitating individual creativity, understanding the team design process, and developing advanced tools and methods that promote superior design and manufacturing of products. We develop concepts and technical solutions for design thinking, concurrent engineering, distributed collaborative design, and design knowledge re-use.
The Venture Design Engineering Lab within CDR conducts research on designing and sustaining ecosystems for innovation in less industrialized economies. Innovation ecosystems are environments where people from diverse cultural and professional backgrounds are enabled to work together to create new technology and business ventures that address societal needs. Leveraging CDR's expertise in understanding and facilitating the team design process, the Venture Design Engineering Lab focuses on en-skilling teams in collaboration, innovative behaviors, and scalable venture formation. These venture-founding teams become the nucleating agents for regional innovation ecosystems.
